Abstract

This study aimed to understand the relationship between lipid levels and inflammation in Behçet’s disease (BD) and to evaluate the possible effects of lipid profiles on the course of the disease. A total of 168 people, including 84 patients and 84 controls, were included in the study. The lipid profiles and inflammatory marker levels of the individuals in the study group were recorded retrospectively, and a comparative analysis was performed between the groups. Triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), TG/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) ratio, TC/HDL-C ratio, interleukin-6 and C-reactive protein were found to be higher in patients than in controls. However, HDL-C values were lower in the control group. In addition, lower HDL-C levels were found in the neuro-Behçet group. There was no statistically significant relationship between serum lipids and inflammation-related biomarkers. In conclusion, we think that regular monitoring of lipid profiles and TG/HDL-C levels and interventions to increase HDL-C levels may help reduce the neurologic complications associated with Behçet’s disease.

Behçet Hastalığı'nda Bozulmuş Lipit Profilleri ve Artmış Kardiyovasküler Risk: Düşük HDL-C ile Nörolojik Tutulum Arasındaki İlişki

Year 2025, Volume: 46 Issue: 3, 489 - 494, 30.09.2025
