Bio

Dr. Mert Elverici has been studying arachnid & terrestrial invertebrate taxonomy, biodiversity and ecology since 2008. He has focused especially on biodiversity assessments and community or population level ecology of terrestrial invertebrates in Mediterranean type ecosystems, including natural and agri-environments (mainly forests and olive groves) at the Mediterranean coast of Anatolia. His approach to develop a better understanding on these ecosystems is mainly field-sampling based. He is also interested in herpetology and biospeleology. He has contributed to first discoveries and descriptions of 12 species as new to science, and first records of many more species from Turkey.  He has 11 years of teaching experience, as of teaching assistant for 9 years in METU (2010-2018) and as a department associate in EBYU for more than two years (2018-2020). He has organized or contributed to 10 courses for biology bachelors on ecology, zoology, evolution and entomology.
