Evidence-Based Orthodontics: Beliefs and Facts

Year 2021, Volume: 2 Issue: 2, 32 - 41, 19.12.2021

Abstract

According to PubMed data, whereas the yearly average number of orthodontics researches was 625 in the second half of the nineteenth century, this number has increased dramatically during the twentieth century, reaching almost 5000 in 2020. Academicians must gradually increase the amount of time they dedicate during the day in order to keep up with current literature. At this stage, the quality of the researches read takes precedence over the quantity. With the introduction of the term "evidence-based medicine" into dentistry in the 1970s, significant improvements in the design of quality research have been noticed. Previously, clinical experiences and the value of communicating these experiences have been replaced in the pyramid of evidence by the high-level research results. The goal of this review is to define where orthodontic research falls on the evidence pyramid, as well as to assess the critical viewpoint on how randomized controlled clinical trials, which are at the top of the evidence pyramid, are planned.

Kanıta Dayalı Ortodonti: İnançlar ve Gerçekler

Year 2021, Volume: 2 Issue: 2, 32 - 41, 19.12.2021
